Artistic bio - Mother & Child

After the French Revolution theme and its warlike values, Marie-Lydie Joffre turns to more peaceful topics.

Her work on the theme of the Nude leads to the theme "Mother & Child": tenderness, maternity coming to maturity, breast-feeding, newborns in a symbiotic relationship on the maternal belly.

These are pastels, based on Nudes, displayed in a narrow range of colours through which a transparent aura of light glows.

O.C., Midi Libre (France) - 7/11/90

Along with the "Mother & Child" theme, Marie-Lydie Joffre continues her research of the Nude theme. "The Pink & the Black" small format works represent an approach of the feminine Nude, worked in pink and black pastel sticks, enhanced with Indian ink.

The scheduled exhibition of those works was ultimately censured, as the nature of the works was deemed too erotic.
